We premiered a new work by Socan Established Composer Award winner, world renowned trombonist Ian McDougall, as well as the Emerging Composer Award Winner, Toronto bassist Mike McClennan. Vancouver based arranger/composer Jill Townsend is the principal composer and conductor for the Jill Townsend Big Band, a seventeen piece jazz ensemble. As a trombonist, Jill has performed with many notable artists including Kenny Wheeler, Natalie Cole, Ray Charles and Chuck Israels. Jill's band has released their premiere CD, "Tales from the Sea", which has received favorable attention in Canada, the US and Europe. The National Jazz Awards (Canada) nominated JTBB in 2006 for best "Large Jazz Ensemble". She has had her music recorded and performed by various groups in Canada and the United States, most notably the Seattle Women's Jazz Orchestra.
